The Sub-Mariner got his own book after appearing in the pages of Marvel
Mystery Comics,
and his cohort from that title, the Angel, joined him in this new
series. His adventures were drawn by creator Bill Everett, and
the cover was the work of Timely's talented Alex Schomburg. This book
is ranked 18th out of 100 Top Golden Age Age book by Overstreet. A
reasonably priced mid-grade copy for your collection.
Overstreet 2006 FN 6.0 value = $8,250; VF 8.0 value = $22,000.

A beautiful Alex Schomburg cover is featured on this second issue of a very popular title. This is actually #2 of this title. The numbering of the title was corrected by Timely with issue #5.

Captain America appears in three stories in this issue, with one each
drawn by Bob Powell, Vince Alascia, and Al Avison. The Human Torch stars in a
backup feature, drawn by Carmine Infantino. The cover art is credited to
Alascia.
CONDITION: This is another brilliant, gorgeous copy whose
eye appeal greatly outshines its actual condition. As with the #49, I have no
hesitation to place this book as a VF+ (or slightly higher to some), which is
not to say it does not have some potential flexibility in grade. The spine is
extremely tight but there is nubbing at the corners and the slightest tear in
the upper left. Similarly, however, this is a qualified grade as the centerfold
and one additional leaf has separated from the staple. Again, this doesn't
personally bother me and I bought the book knowing this to be the case. Others
may feel differently. But unlike the #49 I am also selling these pages could
absolutely be reattached by opening the staple. By definition this would
constitute "restoration", though frankly I wouldn't treat it as a restored book
from a value standpoint under those circumstances. Again, that may just be me.
This book's cover colors are even better than the #49 and the gloss is fantastic
(again, my scanner can not capture the deep bright colors and gloss that this
book maintains). And the PQ is at least OW/W and perhaps White.
Oh,
and the GA smell!
Overstreet 2008 FN 6.0 value = $465.00; VF 8.0 value =
$969.00; VF/NM 9.0 value = $1,610.00.
Although in the same price grouping
as the #49, this issue generally sells for a higher price, and it deserves
to!

Fantastic WWII Captain America Nazi
stories. I sat transfixed to the comic reading the stories. Beautiful Alex
Schomburg's cover art highlights this issue, which also features interior art
from Carmine Infantino (on a Human Torch story) and Vince Alascia.
CONDITION: This is a gorgeous copy whose eye
appeal greatly outshines its actual condition. I've looked at many CGC graded
comics from this period and I have no hesitation to place this book as a VF,
which is not to say it does not have some potential flexibility in grade. Slight
upper right corner crease, left side corner nubs. The staple is starting to
slightly pull away though tight within the book. However, this is a qualified
grade as the centerfold and one additional leaf has separated from the staple.
Personally, it doesn't bother me. I bought the book knowing this to be the case,
particularly because the cover colors are so gorgeous (my scanner can not
capture the deep bright colors that this book maintains). Others may feel
differently. And the PQ is at least OW/W. This book typically sells for OVER
guide!

A CGC 8.0 copy sold for nearly $1,000.00 in 2002 - that is 6
